What Are Urinary Tract Infections? (UTIs)

What's a UTI?

A UTI is an infection in any part of your urinary tract. It happens when bacteria (E-coli) sneak into your bladder through the urethra. They are SO common amongst all ages of women - due to a design flaw with our bodies (Men have willies that puts distance (some more than others 🍆) between their urethra and their anus).

They can get serious, so unfortunately you need to deal with it - if you end up with a kidney infection - it's incredibly painful. Many women suffer recurring UTI’s (I am one of them, that’s why I started Woowoo) and spend years on antibiotics.

Common Symptoms:

  • A burning sensation when you pee

  • Feeling like you need to go all the time, even if there's not much to pass

  • Cloudy or smelly urine

  • Lower tummy pain or back pain just under your ribs

Prevention Tips:

  • Drink plenty of water to flush out those pesky bacteria

  • Wipe front to back to keep bacteria away from your urethra

  • Always pee after sex to help clear out any bacteria even if you can’t be bothered

  • If you find that you are regularly getting them and following all the tips above (peeing after sex is key! ) then take a daily dose of d-mannose like Woowoo UTI babe aid. D’mannose is the part of Cranberries that makes them work to help stop UTI’s in their tracks. You can take the Woowoo supplements on a daily basis to stop the bacteria attaching to your bladder or if you feel a UTI coming on you can take up to nine capsules a day.

What to Do If You Think You Have a UTI:

  • Don't wait it out! Call your GP and get checked out. They’ll ask you to do a simple urine test to confirm it.

  • If it's a UTI, they'll likely prescribe antibiotics to kick those bacteria to the curb.

  • Drink lots of water and cranberry juice

  • Remember, it's totally okay to talk about UTIs and get help if you need it.
